Assignment 3
According to the Blue Cross Blue
Shield Association, nearly a third of millennials have behavioral health
conditions, and rates are rising by double digits. Separately, a C-D-C survey
data reported that nearly 41 percent of respondents are struggling with mental
health issues stemming from the pandemic. The issues are related to the
pandemic and to the measures set up to contain it, including stay-at-home
orders and social distancing. Music has been the key to mental health success
for Jean Rarig, who resides in Manhattan, New York. This morning she woke up
for work and started her normal routine. At 8:30 a-m, her speaker slowly played
one of her favorite songs. It soothed her mindset into being more prepared for
her day. Music is a nice way to connect with your friends. Regardless if you
are with them, or if they are far away. When they were are of the Tik-Tok dances,
that was a fun thing to be able to do that with my friends even though I wasn't
able to see them in person we could use the duet feature, said Rarig. Music
also helps with the feelings you might have in a time of uncertainty. In this
pandemic you have so much anxiety, fear or stress. You are not really sure how
you are feeling, and you are not really sure how to put that into words. Maybe
listening to music or dancing can help you get those emotions out in a way that
you normally would not be able to, said Rarig. For many people living thru the
pandemic, music is just another outlet to help them improve their mental
health. I’m Yesh Naidu reporting from New York, for Murrow College.
